It's free (along with free nearby street parking after 6pm). There will be plenty of light food and tasty beverages for purchase.
Never done this before?
Neither have we. It's our very first open mic night here too. Let's make history together! Newbies are welcome here. This is a perfect venue to make your debut in a positive and supportive music community.
Early weeknight bonus!
Advantage of a Monday open mic is that you've got plenty of nights left in the week to head to other music hot spots in LA, Santa Monica, Hollywood, or the valley.
Feel free to pass this message along to anyone you think may be interested. See you Monday!
At the moment, I'm sitting in Karma Coffeehouse at a showcase, supporting my friend Martha (of Just Martha fame). The event is called Don't Call Us Tori, featuring four female musicians playing original music for a ~5 song set. I'm borrowing a power cable from a nice fellow next to me because I neglected to bring a *charged* laptop with me. I'm still fairly new at the whole blogging in public places, but thanks to tech friendly establishments with free Wi-Fi I hope to change that soon. And next time I'll be sufficiently charged. That's the thing about fellow Mac users in coffee shops. They always seem to have your back.
Last weekend, I was the featured musician for half hour slot before the open mic at Unurban Coffeehouse and from that I wound up playing a few of my songs on a Time Warner local cable show this week. It won't air until the middle of September, but that's fine with me. I was told by the host afterward that it was "a learning experience for all of us." Yeah, that's the story of my life.
So, how's your summer going? Mine is... a learning experience.
Who was your first celebrity crush?
Submitted by Glory.
1960's-1980's music superstars, unite! My first celebrity crush (that I can actually remember) was either Bruce Springsteen or Cyndi Lauper. Why? I saw this video in the 80's:
Every time I saw/heard WAtW and could hardly wait for his part (which was coincidentally, the chorus).
And I thought Cyndi Lauper had mad rad hair and I loved to watch her sing her part too. Who were your crushes (or favorites) from this video?
Do focus on music
I'm reading ten to twenty pages per day in this book:
I should be done in a month. I'll post a short review of it as I did for this one:
